New Year's Eve Film Night 2019/2020

NEW YEAR'S EVE FILM NIGHT 2019/2020
Kino Pod Baranami
Tuesday, December 31, 2019, start: 9.00 p.m.

Celebrate The New Year's Eve with all-night movie marathon at Kino Pod Baranami! On screen: three new films with charismatic actresses - Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Meryl Streep, Charlize Theron, Nicole Kidman, Margot Robbie and Renée Zellweger.

The New Year's Eve night will begin with a new film adaptation of Louisa May Alcott's book Little Women, directed by Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird). The story, well-known by many generations of readers, despite its 19th century background, is filled with timeless issues. Should we follow the voice of our hearts or choose safety and stability? What is more important: the will of the family or your own path in life? These and other questions will become real challenges for the March sisters, portrayed by talented young actresses: Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Florence Pugh and Eliza Scanlen who are accompanied on screen by their older colleagues - Laura Dern and Meryl Streep.

The second movie presented during this special night will be Bombshell – a very up-to-date story connected with the #METOO movement. Three great cinema stars: Nicole Kidman, Margot Robbie and (hidden under unusual make-up) Charlize Theron, play three women who challenge their despotic boss Roger Ailes (portrayed by John Lithgow), the CEO of The Fox News, widely known for his abusive character. Bombshell also tells the story of the dark side of the American media - a casual approach to facts, fake news, manipulation, and scandals, which are the most effective tools for attracting viewers to television screens.

The movie marathon will finish with the screening of Judy - a thrilling story about one of the greatest stars of cinema and music, Judy Garland. In a leading role - the phenomenal Renée Zellweger, who has already proved her vocal talent in Rob Marshall's musical Chicago. The film by Rupert Goold, an experienced British theatre director, focuses on the tough moment in the career of The Wizard of Oz star, who instead of lucrative Hollywood contracts, signs mostly deals for mediocre gigs.

Ticket includes a glass of champagne and warm snacks.

All films will be presented in the original (English) version with Polish subtitles.

TICKETS: 139 PLN
Tickets available at cinema ticket offices and online (www.kinopodbaranami.pl).

ABOUT THE FILMS:

LITTLE WOMEN
(Greta Gerwig) GB/US 2019, 134’

Polish premiere: January 31, 2020

Writer-director Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird) has crafted a film that draws on both the classic novel and the writings of Louisa May Alcott, and unfolds as the author’s alter ego, Jo March, reflects back and forth on her fictional life. In Gerwig’s take, the beloved story of the March sisters – four young women each determined to live life on her own terms – is both timeless and timely. Portraying Jo, Meg, Amy, and Beth March, the film stars Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Florence Pugh, Eliza Scanlen, with Timothée Chalamet as their neighbor Laurie, Laura Dern as Marmee, and Meryl Streep as Aunt March.

BOMBSHELL
(Jay Roach) US 2019, 108’

Polish premiere: January 17, 2020

Based on the real scandal, Bombshell is a revealing look inside the most powerful and controversial media empire of all time - Fox News - and the explosive story of the woman who brought down the infamous man who created it. Starring: Charlize Theron, Nicole Kidman, Margot Robbie and John Lithgow.

JUDY
(Rupert Goold, Great Britain) US 2019, 118’

Polish premiere: January 3, 2020

Winter 1968 and showbiz legend Judy Garland (Renée Zellweger) arrives in Swinging London to perform a five-week sold-out run at The Talk of the Town. It is 30 years since she shot to global stardom in The Wizard of Oz, but if her voice has weakened, its dramatic intensity has only grown.

As she prepares for the show, battles with management, charms musicians and reminisces with friends and adoring fans, her wit and warmth shine through. Even her dreams of love seem undimmed as she embarks on a whirlwind romance with Mickey Deans (Finn Wittrock), her soon-to-be fifth husband. Featuring some of her best-known songs, the film celebrates the voice, the capacity for love, and the sheer energy of “the world’s greatest entertainer.”
