Juwenalia Student's Festival Film Marathon

JUWENALIA STUDENT’S FESTIVAL FILM MARATHON

May 10th, 2013, start at 11.00 p.m.

Mysterious family relations, Polish webs of connections and American gangster girls in bikinis - all of this is waiting for students on Friday (10th of May) during Juwenalia Student’s Festival film marathon in Pod Baranami cinema.

The event will begin with a premiere screening of Stoker (at 11.00 p.m.). This psychological thriller, American debut of Park Chan-wook (director of Oldboy), tells the story of a dysfunctional and mysterious family: mother, daughter and an uncle who suddenly appears in their lives. The strongest points of the film are three women characters played by acclaimed actresses of three different generations - Mia Wasikowska, Nicole Kidman and Jacki Weaver. Stoker won't let any student blink even for a second.

The screening that follows is the controversial Polish film Closed Circuit (at 1.00 a.m.) that will be subtitled in English - a chance for the foreign students to experience latest Polish cinema at its best. The film was widely discussed even during production as it shows the world of high-level administrative officials and prosecutors in their worst conduct. It tells the story (based on true events) of three entrepreneurs who are wrongly accused of money laundering and other crimes by corrupt officials. The investigation leaves them stripped of their money and dignity. The thriller, directed by Ryszard Bugajski (Interrogation) and written by Mirosław Piepka and Michał S. Pruski (Black Thursday) features one of Poland's most appreciated actors - Janusz Gajos.

Finally (at 3.00 a.m.), the audience will see the newest film directed by Harmony Korine, well known as a ‘marvelous child of American independent cinema’. Spring Breakers - latest Venice Film Festival’s revelation - shows the American version of a student’s festival and represents modern beach noir genre. Four college students and a local gang led by James Franco will party hard and respect nothing. The only laws they abide by are drinking sprees, heaps of cash and party madness that spins more and more out of control. In the roles of the reckless students we will see actresses most known for their roles in Disney films - Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens. The film will bring back the spirit of Juwenalia student celebrations.

During Juwenalia Student’s Festival film marathon the cafe in Pod Baranami cinema will be open all night long with an endless supply of Fritz cola and Wostok soda.
