Stiepan to zapis rozmowy z 75-letnim Rosjaninem spotkanym na dworcu kolejowym w Terespolu przy kasie biletowej. Stiepan opowiada historię swojego życia, a jest to historia niezwykła. Historia człowieka wierzącego, któremu przyszło żyć w państwie czyniącym z ateizmu oficjalną „religię”.

Stiepan is a recording of an interview with a 75-year-old Russian met at the ticket office of the train station in Terespol. Stiepan tells the story of his life and it is an extraordinary one. This is the tale of a religious person who has to live in a country that made atheism the official “religion”.

Początek XXI wieku. Kilka scen z życia starego człowieka, Iwana Gudkowa. Poranne wstawanie, rozpalanie w piecu, krzątanie się po kuchni, śniadanie w towarzystwie psów; a wszystko gdzieś na Kołymie. Iwan Gudkow zmarł kilka miesięcy po zakończeniu zdjęć. Był jednym z ostatnich więźniów zatrzymanych jeszcze w czasach stalinowskich. Jego Archipelag GUŁAG trwał aż do jego śmierci.

It's the start of the 21st century and here are a few scenes from the life of an old man, Ivan Gudkov. He gets up early, fires up the stove and shuffles around the kitchen, then has breakfast in the company of dogs, all in Far-East Russia. Ivan Gudkov died a few months after shooting for this film was completed. His Gulag Archipelago lasted all his life.
