The 20th Summer Film Festival Letnie Tanie Kinobranie is underway at Kino Pod Baranami! The programme of the event’s anniversary edition consists of 10 themed weeks and over 200 films! This year's festival is held under the motto BEST SUMMER EVER and runs from June 26 to September 3. The event features some of the most popular new films, cinema classics, and hidden gems worth discovering. Additionally, open-air screenings under the stars - a favorite among audiences - are held in the picturesque garden of the Manggha Museum.
Letnie Tanie Kinobranie traditionally features films by some of the most renowned directors in the world. This year’s programme includes the works of Wong Kar-Wai (Chungking Express, In the Mood for Love, Fallen Angels, Happy Together, 2046), Chloé Zhao (Nomadland, Hamnet), Jim Jarmusch (Coffee and Cigarettes, Father Mother Sister Brother) and David Lynch (The Straight Story, Inland Empire, Eraserhead, Mulholland Drive, Lost Highway), as well as films by Polish masters: Andrzej Wajda (Innocent Sorcerers, The Wedding), Krzysztof Kieślowski (The Double Life of Veronique, The Three Colors trilogy), and Paweł Pawlikowski (Ida, Cold War).
The festival also brings back the most acclaimed films of recent months, giving the viewers the chance to see films like The Drama, Project Hail Mary, The Devil Wears Prada 2, and Wuthering Heights for the first or second time. Exceptional documentaries also return, such as The Queen and the Smokehouse, which was screened at last year’s Krakow Film Festival, the beautiful nature documentary The Velvet Queen, and the deeply moving The Voice of Hind Rajab.
Festival screenings take place at Kino Pod Baranami (27 Main Square), the ASP Auditorium (13 Matejki Sq.) and the MOS Auditorium (12 Rajska St.).
All films are screened in their original language versions with Polish subtitles. Selected Polish and foreign films - with double, Polish and English, subtitles.

Every year, Letnie Tanie Kinobranie attracts thousands of cinema lovers who get to watch dozens of films, including those selected by the audience of Kino Pod Baranami. This year - in celebration of two decades of the festival's history - the event will run for a record-breaking duration of 10 weeks.
Since its inception, our festival has distinguished itself by a program divided into thematic weeks. Each week, the main theme of the films presented, their mood, and their message change. For several years now, Kinobranie has also had a central theme – in previous years, it has been emotions, planets, and colors - says Marynia Gierat, the director of Kino Pod Baranami. This year’s motto of BEST SUMMER EVER marks the festival’s anniversary, and the word SUMMER appears in the names of all the weeks. So, there will be a summer of travel and a summer of love, a summer of women and men’s summer, a summer of mysteries and a summer of youth.
The first week of the festival features cheerful and positive films, while the second spotlights stories about relationships - between family members, friends, and within the wider society. The third week is a journey to various corners of the world, even into space and into one's inner self. The fourth week features stories about youth - its passions, concerns, and challenges - while the fifth week explores the many facets of love. The sixth week focuses on fascinating female protagonists. The seventh week is a palette of emotions: sadness and joy, fascination and anger. The eighth week is full of mysteries, the enigmatic, and the unexplained. The ninth week is all about men - strong and sensitive. The festival concludes the summer with an encore: a week featuring the most popular films of recent months and from previous editions of the festival.
Letnie Tanie Kinobranie features several special film sections in its programme.
The beloved Kultowe Kinobranie (Cult Classics) returns and includes such timeless classics and cult films as Luc Besson's The Big Blue, Giuseppe Tornatore's Cinema Paradiso, and Miloš Forman's Amadeus and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. The Young Ambassadors' Recommendations section was curated by Krakow high school students who recommend their favorite films – teenage viewers chose Roman Polanski's Knife in the Water, Bi Gan's masterful Resurrection, and Mathieu Kassovitz's La Haine. Disobedience is a new section in prepared in cooperation with Conrad Festival that spotlights rebellious characters (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, Promising Young Woman), those living beyond conventional limitations (Coffee and Cigarettes, Perfect Days), and films about rebellion and revolution (La Haine, Parasite).
Winners of major film awards return to the screens of Kino Pod Baranami, including Paul Thomas Anderson's six-time Oscar winner One Battle After Another, Jafar Panahi's Palme d'Or-winning It Was Just an Accident, and one of last year's most important documentaries, Mr Nobody Against Putin. The programme also includes films recognized at the Gdynia Polish Feature Film Festival: Piotr Domalewski's Golden Lion-winning Altar Boys, Emi Buchwald's brilliant debut No Ghosts on Good Street, and Kordian Kądziela's teen comedy LARP. Also returning is Wojtek Smarzowski's powerful, deeply moving Home Sweet Home, which received five Orły awards.

The programme is complemented by the popular screenings under the stars held in the garden of the Manggha Museum of Japanese Art and Technology (26 M. Konopnickiej St.). The screening schedule includes Amelia, the cult Polish comedy Kiler and its sequel, and beautiful, contemplative films Perfect Days and Silent Friend. During Plakatobranie (Film Posters 'Harvesting’) the cinema’s poster archive will be opened to the public. Partner locations - popular Krakow cafes and restaurants - have prepared discounts on their offer for participants of Letnie Tanie Kinobranie. The Zbieraj KINO (Collect Cinema) loyalty card rewards viewers with tickets for attending multiple screenings, and the festival programme is complemented by curated, weekly sets of films available online at e-kinopodbaranami.pl at a lower price.
