Kino Pod Baranami
A meticulously crafted story about searching for one's identity and coming to terms with the past in post-war Europe is at the heart of Paweł Pawlikowski's first film in nearly a decade. Awarded at this year's Cannes Film Festival, Fatherland will be screened with English subtitles at Kino Pod Baranami as part of the Cinemino series on Wednesday, June 24th, at 6:15 PM.
Paweł Pawlikowski is a master of a minimalist, subtle style, whose latest films explore themes of memory and identity. Shot in beautiful black-and-white by Łukasz Żal, they depict the tragedies of people lost in the maelstrom of history. Fatherland marks the grand return of the director of the Oscar-winning Ida and the Cannes-nominated Cold War. The film stars acclaimed German actors Sandra Hüller (The Zone of Interest, Anatomy of a Fall, Project Hail Mary) and Hanns Zischler (Munich).
In Fatherland, Pawlikowski returns to the themes of family relationships and guilt with a story set in 1940s Germany. The film tells the story of a journey undertaken by the Nobel Prize-winning writer Thomas Mann and his daughter Erika. Their journey through the war-torn land becomes an opportunity to reckon with a personal and national history. Pawlikowski won the Best Director award at this year's Cannes Film Festival for Fatherland, marking his second win in this category.

Cinemino is a series of screenings for international audiences, during which viewers from around the world come together to watch the latest Polish and international productions. Each meeting consists of a film screening at Kino Pod Baranami and an informal post-screening discussion at Betel Club. The event is held in English, and the films are shown either in English, or with English subtitles.
The Cinemino series is hosted by Krzysztof Bielski (Jagiellonian University) and Małgorzata Mączko (Kino Pod Baranami).

Fatherland centres on the relationship between the Nobel Prize-winning writer Thomas Mann and his daughter Erika, actress, writer and rally driver. In the summer of 1949, at the height of the Cold War, father and daughter embark on a challenging and emotional road trip in a black Buick taking them across a Germany in ruins – from US dominated Frankfurt to Soviet controlled Weimar. Returning home after sixteen years of exile in the US, Thomas Mann has to face not only a divided fatherland, but also deep fractures within his own family.
