Sentimental Value is a story about difficult family relationships, finding common ground, and unpredictable paths to reconciliation. Joachim Trier's new film will be screened at Kino Pod Baranami as part of the English-language Cinemino series on Wednesday, February 25th, at 5:30 PM.
Four years after the resounding success of The Worst Person in the World, director Joachim Trier returns with a new film. The family drama Sentimental Value won the Grand Prix at last year’s Cannes Film Festival, and is nominated for an Oscar in nine categories. It's a poignant, beautifully crafted story about a family's attempts at reconciliation, with superb performances by Stellan Skarsgård and Renate Reinsve. Sentimental Value is a masterful, but bittersweet film about hurt and healing.
Skarsgård, who is one of the most renowned Scandinavian actors of our time, portrays the charismatic Gustav – a once-acclaimed director dreaming of a return to his former glory. In the eyes of his adult daughters, Nora (Reinsve) and Agnes (Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas), he is primarily an absent father whose absence has deeply hurt them. With Gustav's return, Rachel (Elle Fanning), a young and ambitious Hollywood actress, also enters the family's life.
Cinemino is a series of screenings for international audiences, during which viewers from around the world come together to watch the latest Polish and international productions. Each meeting consists of a film screening at Kino Pod Baranami and an informal post-screening discussion at Betel Club. The event is held in English, and the films are shown either in English, or with English subtitles.
The Cinemino series is hosted by Krzysztof Bielski (Jagiellonian University) and Małgorzata Mączko (Kino Pod Baranami).
