The Voice of Hind Rajab combines documentary and fiction, portraying a real, moving conversation between Gaza rescue workers and a six-year-old girl. Kaouther Ben Hania's Oscar-nominated film will be screened at Kino Pod Baranami as part of the English-language Cinemino series on Thursday, February 5th, at 6:00 PM.
Two years ago, on January 29, 2024, Red Crescent volunteers received an emergency call from a six-year-old girl, pleading for help, as the only survivor of an attack on her family’s car in Gaza. For the next hour, rescuers spoke with little Hind Rajab, while simultaneously attempting to ensure the ambulance's safe passage through the occupied territory. To reach the girl before it was too late, the team had to fight not only against time, but also against military bureaucracy.
The Voice of Hind Rajab, directed by Kaouther Ben Hania, recreates the events of that tragic day, using recordings and transcripts of real conversations between the rescuers and the six-year-old. Professional actors portray the Red Crescent volunteers, conveying their emotions. The two-time Oscar-nominated Tunisian director once again combines documentary and fiction, bringing a touching, deeply human story to the screen, showcasing the heroism of ordinary people.
Cinemino is a series of screenings for international audiences, during which viewers from around the world come together to watch the latest Polish and international productions. Each meeting consists of a film screening at Kino Pod Baranami and an informal post-screening discussion at Betel Club. The event is held in English, and the films are shown either in English, or with English subtitles.
The Cinemino series is hosted by Krzysztof Bielski (Jagiellonian University) and Małgorzata Mączko (Kino Pod Baranami).
