| Hardly anyone had ever heard of Pina Bausch when she was appointed Director of Ballet in Wuppertal in 1973. Since then, she and her troupe have acquired world fame and the "Wuppertal Theatre of Dance" can look back on roughly 50 tours through more than 20 countries. Despite her world fame, Pina Bausch never turned her back on Wuppertal.
